Nam Cat Tien

One of Vietnam’s most important and largest National Parks, it is mostly situated at the northern edge of Dong Nam Bo (South-eastern) region, but includes southern edge of Tay Nguyen (the Western Highlands). To add to its conservation value, in the south-west it is contiguous with the Dong Nai Culture and Nature Reserve.

08:00 You will be picked up at your hotel. Leaving Saigon, we’ll travel up northern city long Highway 1 then branch off National Highway 20 that leads us to a former volcanic crater, known as Lava tubes. Crossing the Dong Nai river to enter the Nam Cat Tien national park that enables visitors to begin their exotic wildlife experience. After about 3 to 5 hours we’ll arrive at the Nam Cat Tien National Park and you will be met by a local guide. Then you’ll check in and have lunch.

In the afternoon you start walking 8km along the ecologic route: sites of Lagerstroemia Ovalfolia (Bang Lang), Tetrameles nudiflora (Tung), Cycas rumphii (Thien Tue), Ancistrolandus Tectorius (Trung Quan), and the Afzelia cyclocarpa (Go). Then we’ll transfer back to the center for having dinner. At night around 20:00 your jeep will transfer you to Ta Lai buffer zone for animal spotting (viewing animals at night). Overnight at the hotel in Nam Cat Tien.

08:00 Transfer by jeep (9 km) inside the park to the junction, where you turn off the main route for 5km trekking tothe Crocodile ake station. A short break at the lake watching tower, then trek to the main road again. Jeep picks up and transfers back to the park center. Check out the room. Lunch in the park before leaving; take ferry crossing the river then heading back to Saigon by vehicle.

What to bring: Long trousers, a good pair of walking boots, torches, water, insect repellent.


08:00 You will be picked up at your hotel. Drive to Nam Cat Tien National Park, Dong Nai province, 170km from Saigon. Once off Highway 1, the road passes through large areas of rubber plantations before branching off the highway onto a rough track to the national park. An incredible diversity of birds and mammals live in the forest and wetland habitats of Nam Cat Tien, including an estimated 230 species of birds & endangered birds to be found here eating their dinner. Lunch in a local restaurant. The afternoon is spent for birding along the road from the park headquarters. Diner & watching some animal at headquarters. Overnight in Nam Cat Tien.

08:00 Discover the forest by bike to see the Haven waterfall & botanical garden. Enjoy lunch. In the afternoon we are starting for the 6 km by pick up car through forest to Crocodile lake. Species that can be seen here include Green Peafowl by Crocodile lake in the early morning or late afternoon, Bronze-winged Jacana, lesser adjutant and Purple Heron. In the forest look out for Red and Black and Banded Broadbill, orange-breasted Trogon and Pale-headed Woodpecker amongst others. Overnight in guest house at Crocodile Lake.


This morning, you should wake up early to listen to the nice songs of native birds. Breakfast at hotel . Then four-hour trekking to see the crocodiles swamp and back to the headquarter of the National Park for lunch. Then get on vehicle for heading back to Saigon.
